Comment:
These are cestodes and trematodes which can parasitise skin and subcutaneous tissues. Sections from biopsies can be used to detect these parasites with sections examined after staining with H&E, Trichrome, Gomori methenamine silver and PAS stains. To examine whole worms: Cestodes need to be relaxed in tap water and fixed with boiling 10 percent formalin, Whole flukes should be fixed in hot 5 percent formalin. Flatworms need to be stained with Mayers haemalum, dehydrated, cleared and mounted. Measurements are vital for id of parasites.
